HIGHLANDS RANCH — With its more than 300,000 miles and multiple breakdowns, Chris Page’s vehicle didn’t have too much life left in it, but what Page never expected was to get a brand-new car from Ellen DeGeneres.
The history teacher at Rock Canyon High School in Littleton was completely surprised when a camera crew from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” approached him in between the school’s junior varsity and varsity basketball games Thursday afternoon. On the phone was DeGeneres herself, with a big surprise.
“We received hundreds of letters and messages on Facebook from your students and fellow teachers,” DeGeneres told him by phone as dozens of kids watched inside the school’s gym. “First of all, any kid that is in your class is lucky to have a teacher like you. … I admire you and think you are fantastic.”
DeGeneres then sent Page outside the school, where a brand-new Chevy Cruze was waiting.
“You see that Chevy Cruze right there? That’s a 2011 Chevy Cruze, and that’s your new car,” DeGeneres said.
Page told DeGeneres the Cruze, which has no mileage on it, is a big improvement over his current vehicle.
“I’ve got a couple years to put 300K on it,” Page said.
