A skier is reported to have been killed in an avalanche in Pitkin County Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department said.

No information about the victim was released.

The person was skiing with two companions just after 4 p.m. in an area outside the skiing boundaries at Snowmass when the slide happened.

The companions told ski patrollers they found the victim, but the skier was dead.

Because of darkness and the risk of another slide, authorities postponed recovering the body until this morning, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
