Behn family estate sale
The death of the Behn family last summer left a void at Ponderosa High School and its surrounding community.
“It’s been a great loss,” Behn family friend Kevin Knapp says of that head-on collision on U.S. 287 that killed Robert Behn, 45; his wife, Lisa, 48; son Jordan, 18; and daughter Morgan, 15; as they were returning from one of the Jordan’s baseball tournaments. Several memorials in honor of the family are underway at Ponderosa High, where members of the baseball team now wear uniform patches with Jordan’s number on them.
Today Knapp and other friends and neighbors who knew the Behns are pitching in with an estate sale at their home in the Pradera housing development in Parker. The sale team has removed hierlooms and mementos from the house. What’s left is 6,000-square-feet of furniture, clothing, appliances, sporting goods and more.
“Their entire house was left as is for the last six months,” Knapp says. “This week we’ve been going through it, trying to separate (what’s) personal from things that can be sold. . . . It’s a little bit eerie, but it’s also amazing.”
Proceeds from the sale go directly to the Behn family estate, but donations will be accepted at the event for the a memorial baseball field in the family’s honor at Ponderosa High School.
“There’s been some tears,” Cindy Churchill of Churchill Estate Sales says of preparing for this weekend’s sale. But people also are “taken by what happens to the stuff” after such an unforseen tragedy.
