How does one parlay a hobby into a multimillion-dollar beauty empire? With talent, luck and a whole lot of determination. Sonia Kashuk, whose career was launched in 1980 when she was hired to do the makeup for a video of the disco hit “Funkytown,” described the path that led to the start of a cosmetics empire bearing her name when she spoke at CHOICES 2011, a luncheon where 1,100 Denver-area women gathered at the Sheraton Denver Downtown to raise $525,000 for Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado. Curious Theatre Company also had success with a female-centric fundraiser when Carmel Koeltzow rallied a couple hundred of her friends for Girls’ Night Out, an evening that included a cocktail reception and peformance of “Circle Mirror Transformation,” followed by a cast party at Japoix.
