An 18-year-old Longmont man sentenced in December to eight years of intensive sex-offender probation for using his role as a babysitter to make sexual advances on young boys has been arrested on suspicion of violating his probation after he admitted to teaching kids “dance moves.”
Ryan Wappel was back in Boulder County Jail on Wednesday on $100,000 bail after a woman called the Boulder County Probation Department to report having seen Wappel playing with two children, ages 7 and 9, outside a home in the 600 block of St. Andrews Drive in Longmont.
According to the long list of Wappel’s probation conditions, he’s not allowed to contact or attempt to contact anyone younger than 18.
According to a complaint filed Tuesday, when Wappel noticed that a woman was watching him play with the children Monday, he hopped on a scooter, circled the block and then returned to the kids. He was “talking and goofing around with the kids and riding scooters together” for about 40 minutes, the woman reported.
When Wappel left, the woman told the children’s parents that the older boy is a registered sex offender, according to the complaint.
