Matthew Hammerdorfer, a 17-year-old Fort Collins resident, died Saturday afternoon after collapsing during a rugby game in Timnath.

The Poudre Fire Authority responded to a call to a field at 2221 S. County Road One in Timnath at about 1:30 p.m., said Captain Patrick Love.

Hammerdorfer was described as having a seizure, unconscious and not breathing, he said.

Hammerdorfer was airlifted to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland where he died at 4:34 p.m., said Larimer County deputy coroner Kari Jones.

An autopsy will be performed by Larimer County Medical Examiner James Wilkerson IV on Sunday to determine the exact cause of death, Jones said.
