Ron Schiller, the former National Public Radio executive, announced this morning that he will forgo his position at the Aspen Institute after he was caught bashing the tea party movement on video.

“Ron Schiller has informed us that, in light of the controversy surrounding his recent statements, he does not feel that it’s in the best interests of the Aspen Institute for him to come work here,” Jim Spiegelman, vice president of communications and public affairs for the Aspen Institute, said.

Schiller was scheduled to begin his position at the Aspen Institute on April 1.

Schiller announced he would leave NPR and take a position in Aspen as director of the Aspen Institute’s art program.

“He was gracious to step aside,” Spiegelman said. “It was his decision.”

The Aspen Institute is a non profit research organization.
