A man was taken to the hospital this morning after he crashed paragliding near Delta.
Robert Eakle, 54 of Whitewater, was paragliding with a group in the Dominguez canyon area, west of Delta, according to a news release from the Delta County Sheriff’s office.
Eakle, an experienced paraglider, lost control of his glider and crashed into the ground.
How or why Eakle lost control of his glider is unknown.
Eakle’s wife, Lisa, and two friends, Mitch Riley and Travis Shuck assisted him until help arrived at the scene.
A deputy and ambulance crew member were able to carry Eakle to an awaiting ambulance that was parked about half a mile from the crash site.
Eakle was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately available.
