Fort Lewis College in Durango has named Barbara Morris, a dean at the University of Redlands in California, its new provost and vice president of academic affairs.

Morris, who will take the place of retiring provost Stephen Roderick at the Durango campus this summer, becomes the first woman and first Native American provost at the school.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from San Diego State University, then received her master’s and doctorate in political science from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
