A woman who was in a car that led police on a chase this morning has been taken into custody, but two men who fled on foot have not been caught.

Two schools in Denver that were locked down over the incident are back to normal operations.

No one was injured in the pursuit, which included a traffic collision near West Jewell Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Just before 8 a.m. a state patrol trooper tried to stop a car in the Evergreen area, near Highway 74 and County Road 73, when the driver took off, said Trooper Nate Reid, a state patrol spokesman.

The driver, with the trooper in pursuit, eventually wound up in southwest Denver, where the fleeing car caused a traffic collision, Reid said. There were no injuries.

Two men ran off and a woman inside the car was taken into custody near South Xavier Street and West Colorado Avenue, Reid said.

Police looked for the suspects in the Bear Creek area, near a border of Denver, Lakewood and unincorporated Jefferson County, saturating the neighborhood for about two hours before scaling back.

Denison Montessori and Force Elementary School were temporarily locked down as a safety precaution.

State Patrol Cpl. Eric Wynn said the trooper tried to stop the car because it’s connected to a burglary and mail theft investigation in Clear Creek County.

The woman, who was not identifed, was taken to the Clear Creek County Jail.
