Katuna honored:
Longmont senior Jamie Katuna became the first Trojans player to be honored as Gatorade’s player of the year. The Longmont sharpshooter averaged 23.7 points, 4.4. rebounds, four assists and three steals per game in leading Longmont to the Class 4A basketball state title game.
The University of San Francisco-bound Katuna, who carries a 4.02 grade-point average, scored a season-high 40 points in the second round of the 4A state tournament against Moffat County.
Longmont coach Jay Darien said of her: “She works harder than any kid I’ve ever had the chance to coach. She studies our competition and prepares for games in a way that most kids don’t. She is absolutely one of a kind.”
