COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The adoptive parents of two missing brothers are going to court on charges of collecting nearly $175,000 in government payments for their care, even though the boys haven’t been in the parents’ household for years.

Fifty-eight-year-old Edward Bryant and 54-year-old Linda Bryant are due in state court in Colorado Springs Thursday.

Investigators say the Bryants told them both boys had run away by 2003, when they would have been 7 and 11 years old. Officials say the parents have given conflicting information. Authorities weren’t alerted until January.

The Bryants haven’t been charged in the boys’ disappearance but face charges including theft and forgery.

The Bryants lived in Colorado when the boys vanished but later moved to the Dallas area, where they were arrested last month.
