Two popular reservoirs in northern Colorado will open for boaters this weekend but before hitting the water, all vessels have to submit to inspections for invasive mussels.
The mussels are considered a danger to local waters and boating officials are required to inspect all boats under the state’s Colorado Aquatic Nuisance Species Regulations.
Both Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoirs will be open for boaters and inspections Saturday. The schedule for March will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday. No boat launching is permitted outside of those hours.
Boats can stay on the water outside those hours as long as they undergo an inspection and launch during the set times.
The reservoirs are scheduled to be open from April through September from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
