DENVER—The United Express pilot accused of flying while drunk has turned himself in.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Denver said 32-year-old Aaron Jason Cope surrendered on Friday to U.S. Marshals in Norfolk, Va., where he lives.
Cope was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury.
He was scheduled to make an initial federal court appearance in Norfolk. A magistrate judge will set a date for Cope to report to federal court in Colorado.
The indictment says the incident happened Dec. 8, 2009 on a flight from Austin to Denver. Cope was serving as the co-pilot.
He’s been charged with unlawfully operating and directing the operation of a common carrier while under the influence of alcohol.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
