A 9-month-old baby pushed through a window screen and fell two stories last night.
At 5:30 p.m. firefighters responded to the apartment complex in the 12150 block of Race Street in Northglenn, according to a news release from the North Metro Fire Rescue District.
The infant fell two stories, about 10 feet, onto the gravel below.
The 9-month-old was taken to Denver Health Medical Center and appears to have non life-threatening injuries.
“Every year we see cases across the metro area and within our own fire district of children pushing out screens and plunging from windows,” Wendy Forbes, spokeswoman for North Metro Fire Rescue District said in a statement.
Officials are urging people to watch infants and small children near open windows and are reminding them that insect screens are “no match for small children.”
According to the release, the Screen Manufacturers Association and the National Safety Council recommends installing window guards or window vents, keeping furniture away from windows, securing window blinds and cords and watching children carefully as they play.
