Denver International Airport managers are making plans to accommodate Department of Defense flights bringing in American evacuees from Japan. DIA officials were advised on Sunday that the DOD flights may begin arriving as early as this week.
Currently, DOD flights are taking evacuees to Anchorage, Seattle and San Francisco where they are processed through U.S. Customs. According to DIA spokesperson Jenny Schiavone, as those airports reach capacity to process the evacuees, some flights may be directed to DIA.
“We will be given nine to 12 hours lead-time when a plane leaves Japan that it will be coming here,” Schiavone said.
