A man was killed this morning after his car slammed into the back of a pickup truck near Fort Lupton.

Just before 8:30 a.m. a Dodge pick-up truck was traveling west on Colorado 52 when it stopped in traffic to make a left-hand turn onto Weld County Road 23, according to Trooper Heather Cobler, spokeswoman for the Colorado State Patrol.

A Geo Metro driving behind the Dodge, crashed into the back of the truck.

The male driver of the car died on scene. The driver of the truck was uninjured. Their identities were not released.

Alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the crash and the driver of the car was wearing his seatbelt, Cobler said.

Highway 52 was closed at the intersection for two and a half hours. The investigation is ongoing, but it is unlikely citations will be filed.
