Snow showers in Denver this morning will likely turn into rain showers this afternoon.

Little, if any, snow accumulation is expected in Denver but parts of the foothills and mountains should see measurable new snowfall amounts, the National Weather Service said.

Dense fog socked in some areas this morning, especially in northeastern Colorado, where visibilities were down to less than a quarter of a mile.

Wintery weather in the mountains today is making for adverse driving conditions in some areas and some highways have been shut down.

Berthoud Pass was closed this morning because of “adverse” weather and crews are currently doing avalanche control work in the area, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. CDOT officials hope to reopen Highway U.S. 40 over the pass as soon as possible.

Highway U.S. 40 is also closed in both directions between Hayden and Steamboat Springs by a rockslide, CDOT reports. Highway U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was also closed this morning by adverse weather.

In the mountains some areas will get up to 4 inches of new snow by this afternoon and parts of the foothills could see up to 2 inches of new snow.

Morning snow showers in Denver today will give way to rain showers and the city could have areas of fog until noon, the weather service reports. Skies over Denver today will be mostly cloudy and the high temperature will be about 52 degrees.

Tonight, Denver has a chance of a rain and snow mix before midnight and then a 40 percent chance of snow early Tuesday morning. Overnight snow accumulation, if any, should be less than half an inch.

Skies in Denver on Tuesday should be mostly sunny and the high temperature should hit about 54 degrees.
