A 65-year-old Keenesburg man was sentenced to 48 years in prison today as the result of an arson fire and armed standoff with Weld County SWAT officers in July 2009.
Prosecutors said Richard Norton fired at four sheriff’s deputies who had responded to a reported stabbing and fire at the home of Norton’s former boss. Norton surrendered after an 11-hour standoff. His boss survived the assault.
Norton was convicted on numerous offenses by a Weld County jury in December, including attempted first-degree murder, four counts of first-degree assault and first-degree arson.
