Larry Shyatt has returned to Wyoming as the head coach of the men’s basketball team, the school said today.

Shyatt coached one season in Laramie (1997-98) before leaving for Clemson. He was with the Tigers from 1998-2003. For the past seven seasons, Shyatt has been an assistant coach at Florida.

Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman said they have agreed to terms on a five-year contact, which includes a base salary of $190,000 per year and a total compensation package that could earn him up to $645,000 per year.

In his one season at Wyoming, Shyatt took over a team that was 12-16 the season before and guided the Cowboys to a 19-9 mark and a spot in the NIT.

“We are thrilled to bring Larry (Shyatt) back to the University of Wyoming,” Burman said in a news release.

“He did a great job in his one season at UW, taking us to the NIT, and the players he recruited to Wyoming paid dividends for our program throughout their careers.”
