RAWLINS, Wyo. — A southern Wyoming store that sold both guns and groceries has dropped food sales after 35 years and will focus on selling firearms and outdoor gear.
Davidson’s Gun and Grocery owners Irene and Windell Davidson told the Rawlins Daily Times it’s no longer practical for them to sell groceries because of the recession, shipping costs, more stringent expiration dates on food and distributors requiring bigger minimum orders.
The store was a family operation, with the Davidsons’ two school-age sons helping out after they opened for business in 1975.
“It’s a great opportunity to have your family all work together,” Irene Davidson said. “When your kids get home from school, you know where they’re going to be.”
Now it’s time to move on, she said. “You just can’t stop with life. You’ve got other things you’ve got to do too.”
