Fire that swept through two Arvada homes caused the evacuation of 15 nearby residences and injured two firefighters early this morning.
The Arvada Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls at about 4:30 a.m. and firefighters found both 6555 and 6565 Union Street ablaze. “Firefighters had to fight heavy winds when they arrived,” said Arvada Fire spokesman Scott Pribble.
Heavy smoke, the potential for the fire to spread and a natural gas leak associated with the blaze led to the evacuations.
Eight people who were inside the scorched homes escaped safely. Two firefighters were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injures.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
