Westminster police are searching for the ex-husband of a woman gunned down in the doorway of a financial services business this morning.
Police say they received a panic-alarm call from an Edward Jones office at 11265 Decatur St. at about 7 a.m. When they arrived there, they found a woman dead in the doorway. They believe she activated the alarm.
Investigators now are looking for the woman’s ex-husband, Richard Paul Stewart, 71. He is described as being 5’10” tall, 140-190 lbs with brown or grey hair.
They believe Stewart, of Independence, Mo., may be driving a 1997 Buick LaSabre Custom, dark blue in color with Missouri handicapped license plate BX97J or a 2009 Chevy Malibu LT, silver ice metallic in color with a possible Minnesota license plate.
Police said there was no sign of forced entry at the Edward Jones office.
“We don’t feel like it’s a danger to the general public,” Westminster police spokeswoman Cheri Spottke said.
Police said the woman was an Edwards Jones employee who was known to get to work early, before the office opened for business.
Employees and others who were near the scene at the time were being questioned by police.
Authorities at the scene were towing a red minivan, but it wasn’t known if or how it was related.
The victim’s name has not been not released.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Westminster police at 303-658-4360.
