Police are asking for help in identifying a suspect in a car break-in that occurred in southeast Denver.

The break in happened around 1 a.m. on March 20 in the 5100 block of East Missouri Avenue. The car was a Honda SUV, but police are not releasing what items were stolen.

Investigators have surveillance video from the crime and are hoping still images released from the theft will help them identify a suspect.

Though few details about the actual crime were available from investigators, the Denver Police Department used its occurrance to remind people to take precautions against thefts from motor vehicles.

The top five items stolen from cars are MP3 players, GPS units, money, tools and stereo face plates, so drivers are urged to not leave these items where people passing by cars could see them.

Drivers should also lock their doors and roll up their windows and try to park in well-lit areas, especially at night.

Denver Police Department spokesman Sonny Jackson said that anybody who sees a car theft in progress should call 911 and not confront the suspect.
