On Friday, it sure sounded like LaLa Vazquez, wife of former Nugget Carmelo Anthony, calling in to KS 107.5 radio’s “Morning Show” to dis Denver.
“Your stores are all the same,” she ranted. “Everything closes early. I mean, I need to party until five in the morning. Who cares if I have a son? That’s what nannies are for. I’m tired of going to bed before the sun goes down, you know what I’m sayin’?”
“Morning Show” deejay Kendall B. confirmed Monday that it was just an April Fool’s joke. “LaLa had nothing to do with it at all,” he said.
The rant hit the blogosphere, and LaLa wasn’t amused. On Facebook and Twitter she posted, “Apparently today on KS 107.5 in Denver they FAKED a phone call with me. I NEVER spoke to anyone today at that radio station. . . . If anyone on that radio station wants to ask me anything they know how to contact me. I’m truly sorry if it offended anyone in Denver.”

Denverite T.R. Reid, NPR contributor and former Washington Post bureau chief in Japan, goes to East High School’s Community Forum at 7 tonight to talk Japan. His new book, “Reimaging Japan,” was set to go to press the day the earthquake and tsunami hit — so that’s on hold, but not his deep knowledge of the nation. His new topic: “The Japanese and Disaster: Old Acquaintances With Adversity.”
Denver has a new writing star in Emily Hainsworth. She just sold her Young Adult paranormal thriller “Through To You” in a two-book, six-figure deal with HarperCollins. The movie rights were also quickly snapped up by the hot producers who made “Like Crazy.”

In last week’s episode of Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” Wynkoop Brewing Co. came out a star. In the board room, cans of Rail Yard Ale and Silverback Pale Ale appeared with the men’s team, John Rich, Gary Busey and company.
“8.5 million views that night,” notes Wynkoop mouthpiece Marty Jones. “Our cans are stars.”
Pigging out
At Cochon 555 at the Ritz-Carlton on Sunday, five local chefs showed off what they did with the 185-pound pig each was given eight days before. Frank Bonanno (Mizuna, et al.) made pig 17 ways! Jen Jasinski (Rioja, et al.) made a shot glass out of the pig’s femur bone in addition to 11 plates of pig. But it was Alex Seidel and his assorted pig dishes from Fruition who took home the prize.
