Southwest Airlines has canceled 70 flights nationwide today as it continues to inspect planes for cracks like the one that caused a flight to make an emergency landing Friday.
The airline did not release airport-specific numbers for cancellations, but is encouraging passengers to check their flight status at . Southwest operates out of 72 airports.
A Southwest spokeswoman said the airline does not yet know how flights may be affected tomorrow.
The company is continuing to inspect its 737-300 fleet after a section of a plane’s skin burst open a few minutes after departing Phoenix on Friday. The crack caused the cabin to lose pressure, and passengers had to put on oxygen masks as the plane made an emergency landing in Yuma, Ariz. No one was seriously injured.
Southwest canceled about 300 flights yesterday as it inspected planes. It found small, subsurface cracks in two planes and cleared another 19 planes to return to service.
