DENVER — A trial has been set for June in the case of a United Express pilot accused of flying while drunk.
The U.S. attorney’s office says 32-year-old Aaron Jason Cope appeared Monday in federal court in Denver to be advised of the charge against him. He is charged with one count of unlawfully operating and directing the operation of a commercial aircraft while under the influence of alcohol.
U.S. District Judge Philip Brimmer tentatively scheduled a trial for June 6.
If convicted, Cope faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The federal indictment against the Norfolk, Va., man says the incident happened Dec. 8, 2009, on a flight from Austin to Denver. Cope was the co-pilot.
