The Rockies beat the Dodgers 3-0 on Tuesday night in the opening game of a two-game series. We only mention it because, well, the Rockies seldom beat the Dodgers in the opening game of any series. The Rockies finished 7-11 against Los Angeles last season, when they lost the series opener five times in six series. In 2009, when they finished 4-14 against L.A., they were 2-4 in series openers.
Streaking.
Troy Tulowitzki finished the 2010 season hitless in his last eight at-bats and was 0-for-9 to open this season before homering off Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning to produce the game’s first run.
Fine leather.
Ty Wigginton, who whiffed on a groundball to set up an unearned run in the series against Arizona, made two nice plays at third base. He ranged to his left to grab Matt Kemp’s groundball in the first and hauled in Juan Uribe’s hot smash to start a double play in the second. In the fifth, he backtracked to grab Tony Gwynn’s high hopper, his one-hop throw to Todd Helton beating Gwynn by inches.
