Police are investigating an armed robbery suspect who allegedly stole a truck before leading officers on a pursuit across Larimer County yesterday.
At 5:40 yesterday morning the suspect is accused of stealing a 2002 Ford F350 truck from downtown Loveland after robbing the truck’s owner at gunpoint, according to a news release from the Fort Collins Police.
The truck was seen in Timnath later that day – about 2 p.m. – leaving the Walmart parking lot at a high rate of speed after the driver was “involved in a theft case.”
Twenty minutes later the truck was spotted in Fort Collins heading westbound near Breakwater and Lemay Avenue. The truck hit two vehicles at 3:15 p.m. near Center Avenue and Lake Street.
The suspect continued to driving and just minutes later hit a patrol car and several other vehicles near Drake Road and Meadowlark and Shields Street.
Police continued following the truck, which was traveling at an estimated 60 mph, before deciding to stop pursuing the truck to avoid injuries.
The truck hit another vehicle at Shields Street and Harmony Road before continuing southbound on Shields toward Loveland.
At about 3:30 p.m., police were notified the truck was en route to Loveland, according to a news release from the Loveland Police Department.
Shortly before 4 p.m. police decided to end the pursuit by deliberately crashing the truck at 29th Street and Garfield Avenue in Loveland.
Before coming to a stop the truck hit another vehicle driven by Loveland resident Thomas Affissio.
Affissio was uninjured, but the suspect was taken to the Mckee Medical Center.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
The Loveland Police Department, Fort Collins Police Services and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office are working together to investigate the case.
