Two days after Jason Giambi’s three-run homer gave the Rockies a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Jose Lopez’s three- run shot gave them a four-run lead in the first inning Sunday. The Rockies outscored the Pirates 10-1 in the first inning in the four-game series and have outscored their opponents 14-1 in the first inning through eight games. The Rockies have jumped out to a lead in all eight games.
Mr. Versatility.
Ty Wigginton played left field Sunday, the third position he has started at in seven games. He bobbled Andrew McCutchen’s single in the third inning, allowing McCutchen and Neil Walker to advance an extra base. Wigginton has two of the Rockies’ five errors, but he won Saturday’s game with a three-run double.
Walking man.
Jonathan Herrera started three games in the Pittsburgh series and reached base 12 times. He finished 5-for-10, with seven walks and four runs scored.
