Weld County prosecutors today charged Gordon C. Schumacher with being a peeping Tom, alleging he hid a webcam in a neighbor’s bedroom last month.

Schumacher, 35, of Erie is charged with a felony count of burglary of a dwelling and a misdemeanor, attempted sexual contact—peeping Tom.

He will be advised of the charges in a May 12 hearing, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s office.

Schumacher was arrested on March 31. He posted a $25,000 bond April 4.

His 33-year-old neighbor told police she spotted the 6-inch wireless webcam among her computer hardware.

She told police she believed the camera was only in her home for a few hours because she had briefly left her house with the door unlocked. She suspected the camera was planted then. Police were not sure if the camera transmitted any images.

Soon after the victim discovered the camera, Schumacher came to her home to apologize and beg for forgiveness, police said.

The neighbor has had a restraining order against Schumacher since his arrest, records show.
