Average retail gasoline prices continued to soar in Denver, rising 7.2 cents per gallon in the past week, according to the gasoline price website .

The average price Sunday in Denver was $3.51 cents a gallon.

The website said the prices as of Sunday were 83.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago, and 21.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Although the cost of gasoline shot up in Denver, it was better than the national average, which increased 7.7 cents per gallon last week to a national average of $3.74 a gallon, according to the website.

The national average has increased 21 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 87.2 cents higher than this day one year ago.

DenverGasPrices is operated by GasBuddy, and more than 225 other local gasoline price-tracking websites that follow prices at more than 125,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada.
