Police arrested a Lakewood woman and her boyfriend on suspicion of child abuse in the death of her 3-year-old son.
Just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, Lakewood police were called to St. Anthony Central Hospital and Children’s Hospital after the death of Elijah Carpenter about midnight Wednesday. The boy had been admitted with life-threatening injuries.
The child had been staying with his mother and her boyfriend at the Mesa Motor Lodge, 5600 W. Colfax Ave., police said.
The boy’s mother, Kristina Marie Carpenter, 25, took the toddler to St. Anthony Central before he was transferred to Children’s Hospital.
Carpenter and her boyfriend, Lysander Benjamin Harvey, 21, were arrested when police discovered that the boy’s injuries did not match the story Harvey told them.
