Heavy snow in the mountains has closed U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass due to severe weather and bad road conditions, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.
The road closed at 8 p.m., and there is no estimate as to when it will reopen.
The northern and central mountains could get another 10 inches by Tuesday, on top of the 10 inches the area received over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
A steady stream of Pacific moisture will continue to bring snow to Colorado’s western mountains and rain to the Front Range and Eastern Plains, the National Weather Service said this afternoon.
The chance of rain tonight in Denver is 100 percent, forecasters said, with rain diminishing in the morning.
The metro area could see afternoon showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday, forecasters said.
Sunny skies and seasonable temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s returns to the city for the second half of the work week, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for the Western Mosquito Range, parts of Lake County, the Eastern Sawatch Mountains, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive, with up 7 inches of snow by morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow showers are expected to taper off Tuesday afternoon, forecasters said.
