Rock Chalk, Jay-bird?
The Kansas City Star reported that a 45-year-old naked man barged into the Springfield, Mo., home of a big Kansas hoops fan . . . and put on a Jayhawks T-shirt and shorts — items worn by 23-year-old Jason Chambers every game during the 2008 national championship season.
Chambers, who was in the process of moving out of his home, had left his prized possessions — forever mementos — for a later trip so they wouldn’t get damaged.
The intruder, who was trying to escape a Drury University security guard, put the clothes on and hid in the attic until officers sent a police dog up after him. The resulting encounter left the clothes tattered.
Associate KU athletic director Jim Marchiony mailed Chambers a package last week after reading the initial report in the Springfield News-Leader. Although the contents were unknown, it was sent after getting Chambers’ sizes.
“He hung the clothes on the wall as a memento — you just got to love that, love that spirit,” Marchiony said.
