Minutes after Kevin McGregor is accused of fatally shooting University of New Hampshire football player Todd Walker on University Hill last month, he went to Del Taco — six blocks from the crime scene — and ordered tacos, Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said during an opening statement in McGregor’s preliminary hearing this morning.

“We have a receipt and videotape of him at 2:21 a.m., less than 30 minutes after the murder, buying tacos, chatting with people, hanging out at Del Taco,” Garnett said.

McGregor then went to University Hill Market and Deli to buy some cigars, Garnett said.

McGregor, 22, of Longmont, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder – felony murder and murder after deliberation – after police said he killed Todd Walker during a botched robbery early March 18

Nearly 40 of Walker’s friends and family members are in the courtroom this morning, along with some friends and family members supporting McGregor. During Garnett’s opening statement, some of Walker’s friends and family wept, and one young man ran angrily from the courtroom when Garnett quoted Walker’s last words, “Leave her alone.”
