BOULDER, Colo.—A 22-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a University of New Hampshire football player in Boulder during a botched robbery has been ordered to stand trial.

Kevin McGregor of Longmont is charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery in the March 18 shooting of 20-year-old Todd Walker, who was home in Colorado on spring break. The Daily Camera reports a judge ruled Wednesday that there’s enough evidence to pursue the case.

Public defender Julia Lee said McGregor and Walker tangled after McGregor whistled at a woman with Walker. Lee says McGregor told police that Walker grabbed for the gun and that he wasn’t trying to rob anybody.

But the woman with Walker told police she pulled a bandanna off McGregor’s face and McGregor shot in the air and then at Walker.
