Pomona is excited about its new girls basketball coach — Jenni Benningfield, a former honorable mention All-American and second team all-Southeastern Conference player at Vanderbilt.
Benningfield, 29, a former Ms. Kentucky Basketball from Louisville, was drafted by the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting then played for the Indiana Fever. The 6-foot-3 Benningfield played four years in Spain and one in Australia before guiding Nederland to a 4-15 mark in 2010-11.
“I want to bring a new energy (at Pomona), bring some confidence back to the program and get going,” she said.
