AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—The Air Force Academy has raised its security level a notch after the death of Osama bin Laden but a spokesman says it probably won’t cause significant public disruption.
Lt. Col. John Bryan said Monday the school outside Colorado Springs is now on the third-highest out of five alert levels. He says visitors may encounter more checkpoints and longer, more thorough checks at gates but traffic is moving well.
Bryan says bin Laden’s death brought a sense of pride to the school.
He says school commanders didn’t make a formal announcement because the news spread quickly after President Barack Obama’s announcement on Sunday.
Bryan says the academy is conducting business as usual Monday and preparing for graduation ceremonies scheduled for May 25. Outgoing Defense Secretary Robert Gates will address cadets.
