DIA will raise its parking rates across the board on June 1.
Parking in the airport’s garages will go to a maximum of $21 a day from the current $18.
In the East and West economy lots adjacent to the garages, the parking rate will go to $11 a day from $10.
The parking rate at DIA’s Pikes Peak and Mt. Elbert satellite lots will go to $7 a day from the current $6.
“DIA is focused on increasing revenue we receive from non-airline sources, which attracts increased air service and is a direct benefit to travelers from around the Denver and Rocky Mountain region,” said John Ackerman, DIA’s chief commercial officer, in a statement.
“This planned increase to our parking rates not only brings the airport approximately $17 million in additional annual revenue,” Ackerman said, but “it also brings us more in line with other major airports across the country.”
DIA’s analysis of garage parking rates at other U.S. airports shows that the June 1 rate of $21 will still leave the Denver airport below the $33-a-day garage charge at San Francisco International, the $31 rate at Chicago’s O’Hare International, and the $30 garage parking charge at Los Angeles International, among other higher-priced airports.
DIA’s new garage rate will put it ahead of Dallas/Fort Worth International’s $19-a-day garage charge and the Minneapolis airport’s $20 garage parking fee, according to the Denver airport analysis.
Also on June 1, DIA’s East and West valet parking will go to $30 a day from the current $27.
Hourly rates in all DIA lots will remain the same.
The Denver airport previously raised rates for the parking garages in 2005, and for the economy lots and satellite lots in 2009.
DIA has a total of 41,514 parking spaces.
In 2009, the airport collected about $109 million in parking revenues, and for the first nine months of 2010, DIA’s parking revenues totaled about $92 million. Full-year 2010 results were not available.
