DENVER—A man accused of fatally shooting a 73-year-old man in the head and dumping his body in a trash bin has been charged with first-degree and felony murder.

The Denver district attorney said Tuesday that 24-year-old William Lornes is suspected of confronting Gerald Schwartzman in the parking lot of a grocery store on April 13. Lornes allegedly killed Schwartzman and left his body in a Dumpster in a Denver alley.

Police found Schwartzman’s car abandoned.

Lornes is also accused of forcing a woman into the trunk of her car at a Denver shopping mall the same day and driving away. She escaped a few blocks away.

Lornes was charged last week with second-degree kidnapping and other crimes in that incident.

An advisement hearing is scheduled for him May 12.
