William Lornes has been formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 73-year-old Denver man whose body was found in a trash bin last month.

Lornes, 24, is accused of killing Gerald Schwartzman after a confrontation in a King Soopers parking lot about 1 p.m. April 13, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Lornes also is accused of dumping Schwartzman’s body in a trash bin in an alley in the 1200 block of Hudson Street.

Schwartzman’s car was found abandoned in the 600 block of South Holly Street.

Last week, Lornes also was charged with carjacking and kidnapping a woman at gunpoint from the Cherry Creek Shopping Center the same day he is alleged to have killed Schwartzman.

Those charges allege that Lornes confronted the woman in a parking garage and ordered her to drive him around before forcing her into the trunk while he drove the car.

She escaped by using an emergency release and called police from a nearby convenience store. The Denver Post
