Traditional spring births are in full swing at the Denver Zoo, the facility said in a news release.
Zookeepers haven’t determined the gender of the three lambs born last month. The two Dall’s sheep and one Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep are already very active, the zoo said.
The 13 Reimann’s snake-necked turtles are only a week old, about the size of a quarter. The turtles are almost fully aquatic, the zoo said. The freshwater species is found in the wild only in Papua New Guinea.
The turtles wrap their long necks around the front and sides of their shell since their necks are too long to go inside the shell.
A male cape buffalo was also born last week. Knightly and mom Charlene are doing well in the central range exhibit.
Hesty the orangutan is almost a month old and exploring her habitat on her own, the zoo added.
The De Brazza’s monkey born in November is still a baby. Kanoa’s independence grows the older he gets.
And the Amur tiger cubs born last summer — Zaria, Akasha, Thimbu and Nikolai — now weigh about 150 pounds.
