An unconscious woman was pulled from a burning apartment this morning by Aurora firefighters.
The fire and rescue happened at about 3:30 a.m. at a complex at 1074 S. Dearborn St., said Capt. Allen Robnett, an Aurora Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters were called to the Sunnyside complex on a report of smoke billowing off of a balcony. When firefighters arrived, the fire was “fully involved” and it was burning inside a third-story apartment and on the apartment’s balcony.
A search team broke through the apartment door and found the unconscious woman in a hallway.
Firefighters rushed her from the unit and she was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, Robnett said.
Initially all of the people living in the three-story building, which has 12 units, were evacuated but firefighters contained the fire to just the one apartment and everyone else is back home, Robnett said.
Further details on the victim’s injuries were not available. No other people were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire investigators estimated damage to the unit at about $100,000.
