DENVER—A federal jury ruled in favor of a Colorado sheriff’s deputy who claimed his political campaign to become sheriff was derailed by his boss.
The jury awarded Sgt. Mark Nicastle more than $100,000 in damages Thursday when they sided with him his lawsuit. The Denver Post reports that Nicastle claimed that Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr launched internal investigations against him when Darr learned Nicastle would try to unseat him as sheriff in the 2010 election.
Nicastle is on paid administrative leave from his job.
Nicastle says Darr demoted him from lieutenant to sergeant when he learned of his plans.
