Home buying rose in the Denver metro area in April but continued to lag behind 2010 figures that had buyers trying to take advantage of the $8,000 tax credit that expired then.
There were 3,429 homes and condos sold in the metro area in April, up 7 percent from March’s total of 3,209, according to data from Metrolist.
The number of sales, however, were down 18 percent from April 2010.
Real estate analyst Gary Bauer noted that the April 2010 market saw buyers placing multiple offers on multiple homes in order to insure use of the first-time home-buyer credit that expired April 30, 2010.
There were 4,729 residential properties placed under contract in April, up 33 percent from March’s tally of 3,571, and down 28 percent from April 2010.
The inventory of unsold homes stood at 19,553, compared to 19,320 in March or an increase of one percent.
The median price for homes sold in April was $222,000 a decrease of one percent from $224,900 in March and a decrease of three percent from $230,000 in April 2010.
