DURANGO, Colo.—It was the straw that closed the school. Bales of it in the commons area of Durango High School.
Classes at the southwest Colorado school were canceled Monday after officials decided that the cleanup of more than 30 bales of hay could cause health problems. Teacher Kevin Camp says the dust from the hay “was like walking through fog.”
School officials tell the Durango Herald that the hay was likely a senior prank. Principal Diane Lashinsky says after the cleanup is completed, administrators will start looking into who hauled the hay into the school, spreading some through the halls.
The earliest the school will be reopened is Thursday. Student Conor Sheehan says he’s never seen a more effective senior prank.
