Construction on Interstate 70 will cause major delays for commuters this weekend.
The left lane of eastbound I-70 at 44th Avenue, and the on-ramp from State Highway 58 will be closed at 9 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Crews will be completing bridge work in the area, replacing asphalt and deteriorated concrete.
Major delays are expected and drivers are advised to take a different route if possible.
The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 55 mph during working hours.
Drivers can access eastbound I-70 from Highway 58 by traveling east on Highway 58 to westbound I-70, and then taking I-70 to 32nd Avenue where they can drive east to Youngfield Street. At Youngfield Street, drivers should go north where they can merge onto eastbound I-70.
Crews will complete work on eastbound I-70 over 44th Avenue this weekend, leaving construction on westbound I-70 over 44th Avenue for a later date. Crews will not be working in the area next weekend, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Work will resume the first weekend in June.
The bridge construction is part of an interchange improvement project at I-70 and Ward Road. The $8.5 million project is scheduled to be completed in July.
