Police have arrested a Colorado Springs man suspected of killing his girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter on Saturday.
At 1:24 a.m. on Saturday police responded to a call at 2900 Marion Drive where they discovered 2-year-old “Isa” Isasayen Romero unconscious and not breathing, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The toddler was taken to an area hospital where she later died.
Following initial suspicions of child abuse, the Crimes Against Children Unit assisted with the investigation.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy and determined that the toddler’s death was caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen and her death was ruled a homicide.
On Sunday police arrested the victim’s mother’s boyfriend, 28-year-old Jonathan Howell.
Howell faces one charge of first-degree murder.
