GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A grand jury has decided against criminal charges in the death of a girl at a Grand Junction go-kart raceway, but says in its report that “actions or inactions” created a situation that resulted in the accident last August.
The Daily Sentinel reports that the grand jury’s report, released Wednesday, says “a perfect storm” led to 9-year-old Taybor Duncan’s death at Grand Junction Motor Speedway. She was running practice laps when her go-kart slammed into a flatbed trailer being hauled by an all-terrain vehicle.
The report says the speedway and go-kart associations had no rules or standards addressing where other vehicles, such as the ATV, should be. The report also says key officials might have been distracted by performing multiple duties.
The Aurora girl’s parents say are suing the speedway.
